Can Dental Implants Save Your Smile?

We’ve been helping more and more people at Peelhouse Dental Care with dental implants over the last 18 months… to the point where increasing curiosity has been filling our message boards from patients asking about their suitability.

Two of my core focuses at our Dental Practice in Widnes are dental implants and saving teeth. I want to help more people understand my work using dental implants.

Dental implants are a popular and sustainable way to improve the stability of your mouth. If you have teeth missing or maybe you wear removable dentures, implants can help you to maintain a long-lasting smile… something we regularly get asked about.

These serve as alternatives to your natural tooth root are made of titanium, a metal that fuses with your jaw bone. When you lose natural teeth, your natural jaw bone may weaken, diminishing your ability to chew and this can change the form of your face and affect your smile.

Dental Implants can save your smile but how do they work?

Dental implants are effectively anchors that are surgically placed in your jaw. Your own bone will grow and join together to support the implant. After between three to six months, the implant is ready for the permanent tooth replacement or prosthetic to be placed on the anchor.

Single tooth loss is one reason to consider an implant and, total tooth loss can be successfully restored with implants with three basic steps required for implant placement:

  • Surgically placing the implant
  • Healing time for “osseointegration,” giving the bone time to develop around the implant.
  • Placing the artificial tooth or teeth.

As you would expect, there are a number of factors to consider before seeking treatment and much will depend on the individual state of a person’s health. Your first step is to contact us, we’d be delighted to help and discuss options most suited to you.
