Dental Bridges

When a tooth is missing there are several options:-

  • Accept the gap
  • Replace the tooth with a removable denture
  • Replace the tooth with a permanent fixture supported from the adjacent teeth – a bridge
  • Replace the tooth with an implant retained crown or bridge.

Dental Bridges can be of several types

  • Fixed at both sides
  • Fixed at one side – a cantilever
  • A stick on bridge or Maryland bridge

Generally fixed and cantilever bridges involve destruction of a lot of tooth tissue whereas Maryland bridges tend to be far more conservative. Each have their place and your dentists will help discuss the merits of each with you.
