Six Month Smiles Adult Braces – Adjustment Appointment update
I’ve had the braces on for just over 7 weeks now. Had an appointment today so some adjustments can be made.
If you look at the photograph you will see some yellow discolouration on the wires and bands, that is because I treated myself to a curry last night knowing I was coming in today and could get the bands etc changed!
First thing was to remove the bite guards, which had worn down anyway.
I also got a lingual button put on today. This is a very small silver bracket that is placed on the back of a tooth. I had this placed on the lower left side and was instructed to place an elastic band between this and the upper external bracket on the canine. So, there’d be a band going from top to bottom. This is going to help upright my lower canine.
I asked Matt if it would be ok to wear this just of a night when I was sleeping, otherwise every time I wanted to eat I’d have to remove the band and then replace it. That probably makes it sound like I eat a lot, I don’t, I’m just a bit lazy (non compliant!) when it comes to this kind of thing and I’d only end up not put a band back on after eating.
I’ve also had powerchain, wire and donuts changed today, so no curry now until the eve of my next appointment
I’m really happy with the way it’s coming along. I can’t believe that changes happen so quickly. I’m not sure I’ll have the braces off by Christmas, but it doesn’t matter. I’m used to them now, no problems with eating, drinking, talking.
I’m still getting people now saying “Oh you’ve got braces, how long have you had them?”. They’re surprised when I tell them 2 months and they’ve not noticed them before.
My advice at this stage is, if you’re thinking about adult braces, go for it. I’m so pleased with the progress and already it’s giving me more to smile about.
Finally, please feel free to ask me any questions about my treatment and i’ll give you honest answers.
Kerry.
